The background
Eyelash extensions are one of the fastest-growing trends in the UK for the modern woman’s beauty regime. The painstakingly long appointments can take between 1.5-3.5 hours. The delicate process involves the isolation of natural lashes to apply a fibre extension using adhesive. This requires patience, specialist knowledge and the correct climate conditions. Lash glues require an ambient temperature of 20-24 degrees with a humidity of 55% for optimal results.
The challenge
Humidity issues can affect the application of eyelash extensions. The ethyl-cyanoacrylaye adhesives favoured by many lash technicians activates in the presence of water. When the humidity and temperature are not controlled the process take longer and become frustrating for both the client and the technician. If ambient humidity is too high the adhesive may cure too quickly, resulting in a weak bond causing premature fallout and difficulty adhering the extension to the lash. If the humidity is too low the curing process is slowed, leading to longer appointments. “As a Lash Technician this is something I have battled with,” said Hollie Johnson , Director of Divamane. “In the summer high humidity levels caused shock curing and lash retention issues. In the winter months the humidity levels drop massively leading to the opposite issue of slow drying time.”
The solution
“Humidity Solutions provided me with a small easy to use humidifier which has solved my low humidity issues allowing me to have a consistent environment to work in, speeding up my lashing time; making the process straight forward again. I had never considered how important something like humidity could be, but it has made a huge difference to my process and client’s retention. Thank you, Humidity Solutions!”
